Cardinals Related to the Minimal Tower Problem

چکیده
Motivated by the minimal tower problem, an earlier work studied diagonalizations of covers where the covers are related to linear quasiorders (τ -covers). We deal with two types of combinatorial questions which arise from this study. (1) Two new cardinals introduced in the topological study are expressed in terms of well known cardinals characteristics of the continuum. (2) We study the additivity numbers of the combinatorial notions corresponding to the topological diagonalization notions.

متن کاملA Topological Interpretation of the Tower Number
Hurewicz found connections between some topological notions and the combinatorial cardinals b and d. Rec law gave topological meaning to the definition of the cardinal p. We extend the picture with a topological interpretation of the cardinal t. We compare our notion to the one related to p, and to some other classical notions. This sheds new light on the famous open problem whether p = t.
متن کاملSelection Principles and the Minimal Tower Problem
We study diagonalizations of covers using various selection principles, where the covers are related to linear quasiorderings (τ -covers). This includes: equivalences and nonequivalences, combinatorial characterizations, critical cardinalities and constructions of special sets of reals. This study leads to a solution of a topological problem which was suggested to the author by Scheepers (and s...
متن کاملPrecipitous Towers of Normal Filters
We prove that every tower of normal filters of height δ (δ supercompact) is precipitous assuming that each normal filter in the tower is the club filter restricted to a stationary set. We give an example to show that this assumption is necessary. We also prove that every normal filter can be generically extended to a well-founded V -ultrafilter (assuming large cardinals). In this paper we inves...
